This structure is meant to represent my perception of my maternal family home in Kerala and how it has changed as a space in my memory over the years. I wanted to highlight how a space is viewed in memory and how it is different from the way a space looks physically.

This staircase is also a tribute to the staircase in my maternal family home where I would sit for hours and observe the paintings on the wall. While climbing a flight of stairs, you move forward in time with each step climbed, leaving a wide range of possibilities after the last step, which represents the present in my artwork.

My experiences in this space can be divided into six phases, from 2002 to present, with each phase being illustrated on a step. These illustrations include objects, events, and sentiments present in each phase, with specific colour palettes that I associate with each phase. These events include making up fictional narratives as a child, my first experience with death, overwhelming functions and ceremonies, activities like cross stitching and embroidery done in leisure, adoption of cats, globalisation and modernisation, and more.
